La région, longtemps théâtre d’affrontements entre le gouvernement Birman et les groupes ethniques, est encore soumise à des restrictions de circulation, notamment au Nord de Chaukmè.
Montagneux, l’État Shan est une région où les trecks sont possibles. Il est parfois possible de dormir dans les villages (Thsipaw, Kalaw ou Chaukmè).
L’État Kayah est désormais facilement accessible, de Rangoon, Mandalay ou de l’État Shan. Y circuler avec un chauffeur et une moto n’est pas toujours facile car les locaux n’ont pas l’habitude des touristes. Les paysages sont parfois surprenants. La ville de Loikaw est particulièrement intéressante à visiter au moment de la pleine lune de novembre, occasion de grandes fêtes.
Shan and Kayah States
Shan State, which has long been the scene of clashes between the Burmese government and ethnic groups, s still htraffic restrictions, particularly north of Chaukmè.
Shan State is a mountainous region and a nice place for trecking. It is sometimes possible to sleep in villages (Thsipaw, Kalaw or Chaukmè).
Kayah State is now accessible from Rangoon, Mandalay or Shan State. The landscapes are sometimes surprising.
The best way to visit is to hire a motocycle to go to villages around. Visit Loikaw at november full moon, time of beautifull celebrations.
